Living with Hypoglycemia

Living with Hypoglycemia: What I’ve Learned (and How I Manage It)

Hello everyone! I’m hypoglycemic! Which basically means my blood sugar likes to play emotional rollercoaster without my consent. But instead of fighting it, I’ve decided to lean in and build an Olympic-level snack game to keep me steady, happy, and functioning like a semi-normal human. 👇Scroll down for my fave snack picks, my weird but effective sugar hacks, and the one thing I never leave home without. WELLNESS

The Early Signs I Look Out For:

Feeling lightheaded or dizzy (like the floor just tilted).

A sudden wave of weakness or fatigue.

Feeling super irritable for no reason.

Headaches that creep in fast.

And my personal favorite: the “I need to eat something right now or I’ll pass out” feeling.

My Go-To Snacks & Meals:

Protein + carbs combo: Toast with peanut butter (I love Dave’s Killer Bread, Greek yogurt with granola, or a banana with almond butter.

Small, frequent meals: I never leave the house without a snack — usually a protein bar or mixed nuts.

Steady fuel, not quick fixes: I avoid refined sugars completely, even in emergencies, because they can make me crash harder.

What Helps Me Stay Balanced:

I start my mornings with something small — even if I’m not hungry yet — just to keep my blood sugar steady.

I avoid going too long without eating. For me, the 3-4 hour mark is when I start to feel it.

Hydration is key. Dehydration + low blood sugar? Not cute.

The Takeaway

Living with hypoglycemia isn’t about being perfect — it’s about listening to your body. I’ve learned that keeping snacks on hand, eating balanced meals, and slowing down when I feel off makes all the difference. If you’re dealing with the same thing, know this: you’re not “high maintenance” or “overthinking it.” You’re just taking care of yourself — and that’s always a power move.

Take care of you, my sweet healthy babes. Xx, Frances @GalOffDuty
