34 & Feeling Lucky 🍀

Hey babes, Happy Sunday! This week I turn 34, and every year I'm reminded how much I love birthdays. Sure, they're fun, but they're also one of my favorite excuses to pause for a little self check-in.

It's easy to get caught up in chasing the next goal, the next trip, the next milestone. But birthdays have a way of reminding us to look around and appreciate what we already have. The friendships that show up. The family we love. The quiet moments. The good health. The little things that end up being the biggest luxuries of all.

So today, I'm sharing a few reflections on gratitude, growing older, and the things that feel more valuable with each passing year.

34 & Feeling Lucky

This weekend, I'm heading to Miami to celebrate my 34th birthday with two of my favorite people: my dad and my sister. We're spending the weekend together, cheering on my horse at the races, soaking up some sunshine, and making the kind of memories that somehow become more meaningful with every passing year. The older I get, the less birthdays feel like a countdown and the more they feel like a reminder. A reminder to pause, look around, and appreciate the life that's unfolding right in front of me.For so long, I was focused on what's next—the next trip, the next goal, the next milestone. But somewhere along the way, I realized that some of life's most beautiful moments happen when you stop racing ahead and fully step into the one you're already living. And this birthday feels like one of those moments.

The View

Miami has always felt electric to me. There's something about the palm trees swaying in the breeze, the ocean air, and the energy that fills the city that makes it the perfect backdrop for a birthday weekend. Not because it's flashy, but because it reminds me to celebrate the moment I'm in instead of constantly chasing the next one. As a full-blown Gemini, I've never had a problem dreaming about what's ahead. Reinvention, adventure, curiosity—I love it all. But this year, I'm finding joy in being present. In slowing down enough to appreciate what's right in front of me.And that's a gift all on its own.

The Race

One of the highlights of the weekend will be watching my horse race.If you've ever poured your heart into something—a business, a passion project, a dream that felt a little crazy when you first shared it—you know the feeling. Equal parts excitement, hope, nerves, and gratitude.Standing at the track, watching something you've invested your time, energy, and belief in come to life is a feeling that's hard to put into words.Of course, I'd love a win.But no matter what happens, getting to be there with the people I love most already feels like one.Because sometimes the greatest reward isn't crossing the finish line. It's having the courage to place the bet on yourself in the first place.

The Real Luxury

When I was younger, I thought luxury was something you could book.A beautiful hotel.A first-class seat.A reservation everyone wanted. And while I still appreciate all of those things, the older I get, the more my definition of luxury has changed.Luxury is having lunch with my dad and realizing how grateful I am for every year we get together.Luxury is laughing with my sister until we can't catch our breath because we're telling the same stories we've been telling for years.Luxury is good health, peace of mind, meaningful work, and the freedom to create a life that feels like your own. Most of all, luxury is time.Time with the people you love.Time to make memories.Time to celebrate another trip around the sun. That's the kind of wealth that doesn't fit inside a shopping bag, and it's the kind I'm most grateful for these days.

Bottom Line

As I step into 34, I'm feeling incredibly lucky. Lucky for the adventures behind me and the ones still waiting ahead. Lucky for the people who have stood beside me through every version of myself. Lucky for family, for health, for growth, and for another year of becoming. This weekend, I'll be celebrating all of it from Miami—with sunshine, family, a little excitement at the racetrack, and a heart that's feeling very full. And maybe cheering a little louder than usual from the sidelines. Here's to 34. Let's make it a good one. Cheers & martinis, Frances @GalOffDuty
