These dogs need both mental and physical exercise. A bored poodle will invent their own ‘fun’ (chewing, barking, redecorating your sofa). We’re lucky to live near the beach, so they get that extra exercise every week.

Because they’re so smart and tuned-in, poodles can be sensitive. Harsh training methods won’t work; they respond best to patience, consistency, and lots of positive reinforcement. With mine, I even have to watch my tone — if they don’t like how I give a command, they simply won’t listen.⸻

Different “Types” of Poodle Ownership As a Pet: Loyal, loving, and a little mischievous. Perfect if you’re ready to invest in training and grooming. As a Service Dog: Their intelligence and intuition make them excellent at assisting with mobility, therapy, and emotional support. For Hunting: Believe it or not, poodles were originally bred as water retrievers. Standard poodles especially can be incredible in the field. For Showing: This is a whole lifestyle—grooming, travel, competitions. If you love structure and sparkle, it might be your world.
